Gloves for the disabled

GlovesCambridge student venture TouchSight has developed a unique mobility aid for the blind and visually impaired. Called the "TouchSight Vision Mitt", this glove-based system when worn enables the visually impaired user to sense their surroundings.

Using ultrasonic sensors as "eyes" and with vibration actuators, the TouchSight Vision Mitt is a low cost alternative to guide dogs or white sticks for the visually impaired.

This glove-based system from a group of four University of Cambridge students beat other student entrepreneurs in the first Varsity Pitch competition to claim the grand prize of £5,000 and a trip to Monaco.

TouchSight will now take next steps to bring the product to market by building more prototypes, protect their intellectual property and work closer with distribution channels to make this happen. And hopefully, TouchSight will bring a real change to the lives of the blind and visually impaired across the world.
