Transforming Spam into a Masterpiece

A zoom in view of spam plantAlex Dragulescu came up with a computer program that transforms the data found in junk emails including headers, footers, subject lines etc, into a masterpiece. What a novel idea.

The colour scheme is determined by the numeric address of the sender while the size of the plant is influenced by the timestamp of emails. In addition, the length of the email translates to how bushy the plant grows and certain keywords such as “Nigerian” might trigger more branches.

Each spam plant looks like flowers blooming with a magnificent display of colours. When many are put together however, they resemble a colourful and vibrant coral reef. It is just captivating!
